Come enjoy a hike along the ancestral path of Pico Rodadero in the Sierra Alta community of the town of Yauco. We will explore the second highest mountain peak in this city. From there you will appreciate an unparalleled panoramic view of the entire south and southwest of Puerto Rico. This karst zone area contains unique ancestral stories of our Taínos who used these spaces in times past.
You will be walking through clay spaces, slippery and narrow paths.
Event specifications:
- Difficulty level: qualified course of a regular level (2). Suitable physical condition is required for this type of event. The activity includes a 3-hour walk.
- *You will be walking through some slippery spaces and over rocks.
- *activity for adults and young people between the ages of 14 and 17 who are authorized by their parents and accompanied by an adult.
- You should come with a good breakfast.
- You must read and complete the waiver of responsibility document upon arrival at the meeting point.
- Meeting point:
parking lot of the Meson Sandwiches Yauco Plaza at 8:30 am. We left for the peak at 9:00 am punctually, so we recommend arriving before or on time.
Required equipment:
- car in good condition that can climb steep and narrow roads for more than 30 minutes (if not, they must be willing to do carpooling).
- closed footwear/preferably hiking boots
- comfortable clothing of long shirt and pants (light colors)
- hat or cap
- reusable water bottle
- drinking water (2 liters)
- safety helmet (in case you want to bring it)
- gardening gloves
- reusable utensils (plate, glass, spoon)
- healthy snacks
- change of clothes (just in case it rains)
- layer of rain
- sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- camera 📸 or that of your cell phone
- hat or cap
- Insect repellent
- If you are allergic to insects or bees, bring your epipen.
- backpack with first aid kit
This experience includes:
- Educational and interpretive experience, tour guided by a trained and certified professional.
- Includes a Creole lunch prepared by the community (menú criollo).
Event Difficulty:
Level 1: Easy / we recommend it for people of all ages.
Level 2: Regular/includes moderate walking, so we recommend parental discretion and supervision over their children's participation.
Level 3: Difficult / we recommend it only for people accustomed to long, difficult walks on uneven terrain. We do not recommend the participation of children.
Level 4: Extreme / we recommend it only for people in excellent physical condition who can handle the challenges of the nature of the place. Includes long walks under difficult environmental conditions. We check your physical condition, your equipment and your clothing before starting.
